Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) technology, used to reduce the risk of neurological dysfunction in children undergoing congenital heart surgery, enables non-invasive and real-time monitoring of brain and somatic tissue oxygenation. This technology plays a critical role in the early detection of complications that may develop due to low cardiac output, especially during surgical intervention and intensive care processes, by providing instantaneous data to clinicians. Although measurement sensitivity varies according to patient age, tissue characteristics, and environmental factors, NIRS monitoring has become an important part of the standard of care in pediatric cardiac surgery today.
