The Cytokine-Mediated Disease Theory posits that cytokines produced by the immune system do not merely eliminate pathogens but can also directly contribute to disease symptoms and harmful systemic effects. While the body's natural stress responses are intended for short-term adaptation, modern environmental and lifestyle factors create persistent stressors that force the immune system into a state of chronic, low-grade inflammation. This sustained activation disrupts energy regulation and neuroendocrine balance, ultimately predisposing the body to metabolic disorders and autoimmune conditions.
