The COVID-19 pandemic has led to profound and multifaceted negative impacts on public mental health alongside physical health, becoming a significant public health issue. Factors such as quarantine, social isolation, and economic uncertainties have caused a distinct global increase in depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, substance abuse, and domestic violence. During this period, healthcare workers under heavy workloads and infection risks, vulnerable women, children and adolescents whose routines changed with remote education, elderly individuals experiencing loneliness and mortality anxiety, and individuals with pre-existing psychiatric disorders constitute the highest risk groups regarding mental health. The disruption of routine mental health services during the pandemic has further deepened these issues. In order to mitigate these negative effects and improve public mental health, it is of critical importance to increase mental health budgets, generalize psychological first aid training, and effectively utilize remote support mechanisms through tele-psychiatry, mobile health applications, and digital platforms.
