As a solution to the complications encountered in archiving and securely retaining patient records over extended periods within the healthcare industry, potential use cases and benefits of blockchain technology in orthodontics are evaluated. While traditional digital archives increase costs and compromise reliability due to inadequate security and a lack of correlation among various institutions, blockchain stands out with its decentralized, transparent, independent, immutable, and identity-concealing characteristics. Enabling secure data verification without relying on any state or governing authority, this technology allows orthodontic specialists to swiftly access historical records for more precise diagnoses, while optimizing treatment processes to yield significant time and financial savings. Furthermore, the system permits material price comparisons, authenticity verifications, and automated insurance approvals through smart contracts, alongside granting patients opportunities to generate income from their own medical data. To prepare for a future where artificial intelligence provides legally compliant diagnostic and treatment assistance to clinicians via validated big data, it is essential for researchers, practitioners, and students to thoroughly understand this strategic infrastructure.
