In the evolving world, while the use of internet and technology facilitates life, excessive and pathological use brings along psychological, social, and academic problems. This condition, which can be classified as a behavioral addiction in DSM-5, leads to negative outcomes such as poor mental health, low self-esteem, social isolation, decline in academic performance, and obesity. Scientific researches show that technology addiction has a strong comorbidity with depression, anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), social phobia, and loneliness, where loneliness and depression create a vicious cycle as both a cause and a consequence. Furthermore, intensive internet use can trigger the risk of substance addiction through dopaminergic system genotypes and is associated with cluster B personality disorders such as narcissistic traits. In advanced cases, this addiction, which can cause fatal consequences due to anger, impulsivity, and high-risk behaviors in digital environments, also sabotages family ties and career processes. As a solution, rather than completely excluding technology from life, it is of critical importance to instill a balanced approach to technology use in youth and to develop healthy alternative pathways.
