The study examining the effects of circadian rhythms on sports performance shows that 24-hour cyclical processes such as body temperature, hormone secretion, and metabolism directly shape athletic success. According to research, due to the endogenously rising body temperature, increased muscle hypertrophy factors, and accelerated antioxidant activities, the most optimal time frame for exercise is late afternoon, specifically between 16:30-18:30. Performance tests vary according to chronotype; morning chronotypes peak in the early afternoon, while evening chronotypes achieve their highest success in the late afternoon hours. While there is a strong consensus that afternoon hours provide an advantage in aerobic activities, the effect of the time of day on performance remains more limited in anaerobic and strength training. In team sports, knowing individual chronotypes directly affects match results, whereas jet-lag syndrome during intercontinental travel can also impair performance. Consequently, the accurate analysis of circadian rhythms and individual chronotypes is of critical importance for optimizing training schedules and achieving maximum athletic success.
