Diabetes mellitus (DM) and psychiatric disorders share a bidirectional, complex relationship that profoundly impacts patients' quality of life and treatment processes. While DM increases the incidence of various psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, dementia, and delirium, these psychiatric states also complicate diabetes management, leading to poor glycemic control, elevated healthcare costs, and higher mortality risks. For the effective management of this critical clinical scenario and to improve treatment adherence, it is of paramount importance that individuals with diabetes undergo regular psychiatric screenings and receive timely diagnosis and intervention.
