The increasing utilization of ionizing radiation in medical imaging underscores the vital importance of radiation safety and awareness education among healthcare professionals. Studies globally and within Turkey consistently demonstrate that the knowledge levels of healthcare workers, including physicians, regarding radiation protection and diagnostic dosages remain significantly below target levels. For instance, the accurate estimation of computed tomography (CT) doses is remarkably low, and misconceptions persist where radiation-free modalities like ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging are mistakenly believed to emit radiation. International frameworks, such as the European Commission's Guidelines No. 175 and the "Bonn Call For Action," advocate for integrating structured radiation safety into medical curricula and strictly adhering to the ALARA principle. Nevertheless, current shortcomings include insufficient coverage within the National Core Education Program (UÇEP) and the failure of traditional didactic teaching methods to translate knowledge into safer clinical behaviors. Particularly in high-exposure specialties like orthopedics, vascular surgery, and anesthesiology, implementing case-based, multi-professional interprofessional education models is essential to safeguard staff, minimize redundant radiological requests, and ultimately enhance patient safety and healthcare economics.
