Vitamin D is a sterol hormone synthesized in the body that plays critical roles in calcium metabolism and the immune systemIn otorhinolaryngology practice, its deficiency is closely associated with the development or exacerbation of inflammatory diseases such as chronic rhinosinusitis, allergic rhinitis, recurrent tonsillitis, and otitis media. It can also lead to otological problems like vertigo, tinnitus, and sensorineural hearing loss by affecting otolith structure and inner ear mineralization, while acting as an inhibitory factor for cell proliferation in head and neck cancers. Monitoring vitamin D levels, especially during winter and in regions with low sunlight, is essential for preventing these conditions and improving treatment outcomes.
