B vitamins are a group of eight essential water-soluble micronutrients that serve as vital cofactors in cellular metabolic pathways, supporting brain development and health. Deficiencies in these vitamins can lead to severe neurological and psychiatric disorders such as cognitive decline, dementia, depression, and neuropathy, directly impacting brain functions through their roles in energy metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis. Actively transported across the blood-brain barrier via specialized mechanisms, these nutrients maintain high concentrations in brain tissue to provide protective effects against oxidative stress and inflammation. Ensuring optimal intake of B vitamins, both individually and synergistically, is critically important for preserving mental function and preventing neurodegenerative diseases.
