Vitamin D serves as a vital hormone for the healthy functioning of the musculoskeletal system, bone mineralization, and maintaining calcium-phosphate balance. Its deficiency leads to serious bone diseases such as rickets in children and osteomalacia or osteoporosis in adults, while also increasing fracture risks and contributing to the development of osteoarthritis. Maintaining serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D levels between 30-60 ng/mL through daily supplements of 600-1000 IU or adequate sunlight exposure is recommended to preserve bone health and prevent degenerative joint diseases.
