Neurometabolic diseases are inherited disorders characterized by enzyme or vitamin deficiencies or dysfunctions that impair brain development and lead to the accumulation of toxic metabolites. These conditions typically manifest in children through various neurological symptoms, including neurodevelopmental delays, motor disturbances, epilepsy, and intellectual disability. Clinical diagnosis is achieved through careful assessment, neuroimaging studies, and the analysis of multisystem involvement, such as visual, auditory, hepatic, or cardiac dysfunction. Early identification of treatable metabolic conditions is critical for preventing permanent brain damage.
