Headache is a frequent reason for pediatric emergency department visits, typically originating from benign, self-limiting primary causes. In the diagnostic process, clinical history and neurological examination are fundamental, and urgent neuroimaging is required when "red flag" symptoms are present. Migraine and tension-type headaches constitute the most common forms of primary headaches in childhood. Secondary headaches require careful differential diagnosis as they may indicate an underlying organic condition.
