Özet

Beyin ölümü, dolaşım, solunum ve tüm beyin fonksiyonlarının geri dönüşümsüz olarak durması şeklinde tanımlanan yasal ve tıbbi bir standarttır. İnfant ve çocuklarda bu tanının konulabilmesi için koma, beyin sapı reflekslerinin kaybı ve apne testinin klinik olarak doğrulanması şarttır. Tanı sürecinde, etyolojinin netleştirilmesi ve geri dönüşümlü durumların dışlanması kritik bir öneme sahiptir; klinik muayenenin yetersiz kaldığı veya süreçlerin hızlandırılması gerektiği durumlarda ise yardımcı görüntüleme ve elektrofizyolojik testlere başvurulur.

 

Brain death is a medical and legal standard defined as the irreversible cessation of circulatory, respiratory, and whole-brain functions. To diagnose this in infants and children, clinical confirmation of coma, the absence of brainstem reflexes, and a positive apnea test are required. It is essential to determine the etiology and rule out reversible conditions; ancillary imaging and electrophysiological tests are used when clinical examination is insufficient or when the diagnosis process needs to be accelerated.
