Epilepsy is a chronic brain disease characterized by recurrent seizures occurring without acute triggering factors, significantly impacting a patient's neurobiological, cognitive, and social functions. The diagnostic process relies primarily on obtaining a detailed history to differentiate epileptic events from non-epileptic conditions, followed by classifying seizure types according to the 2017 ILAE criteria. Physical examination, EEG, and neuroimaging modalities like cranial MRI are essential tools used to identify underlying etiologies and potential comorbidities. Accurate diagnosis requires the holistic integration of clinical semiology, patient history, and diagnostic findings.
