Özet

Ketojenik diyet tedavileri (KDT), dirençli epilepsi nöbetlerini kontrol altına almak amacıyla yaklaşık 100 yıldır uygulanan; klasik, modifiye Atkins, MCT ve düşük glisemik indeksli olmak üzere dört ana gruptan oluşan yüksek yağlı bir tedavi yöntemidir. İki yaş altı dahil her yaş grubunda etkili olan bu tedavi, ilaçların yetersiz kaldığı durumlarda nöbetlerin azaltılması ve bilişsel iyileşme sağlamak için disiplinli bir klinik süreçle yönetilir. Tedavi süreci; detaylı ön değerlendirme ve düzenli laboratuvar takibi gerektirir; gastrointestinal sorunlar, hiperlipidemi ve böbrek taşı gibi yan etkiler ise uygun destekleyici tedavilerle yönetilebilir.

 

Ketogenic dietary therapies (KDT) are high-fat, low-carbohydrate medical interventions used for over a century to manage intractable epilepsy, categorized into classical, modified Atkins, MCT, and low glycemic index treatments. Effective across all age groups, including infants, these therapies are indicated when antiepileptic drugs fail, aiming to control seizures and promote cognitive improvement through a structured clinical process. Implementation requires rigorous pre-assessment and ongoing monitoring to manage potential side effects such as gastrointestinal issues, hyperlipidemia, and kidney stones, often mitigated by supplemental therapy.
