Tic disorders are common neurodevelopmental conditions in children characterized by involuntary movements and vocalizations. Underlying these symptoms are genetic factors and dysfunctional activity within cortico-striatal-thalamo-cortical neural circuits. Management strategies range from behavioral therapies and pharmacological agents to neurosurgical interventions for severe cases. PANS, by contrast, refers to a distinct, post-infectious autoimmune syndrome involving sudden-onset neuropsychiatric symptoms like OCD, differing from the classical presentation of tic disorders.
