Optic neuritis is characterized by acute or subacute visual impairment in children, arising from diverse etiologies such as vascular, infectious, neoplastic, or demyelinating processes. The clinical presentation frequently involves reduced visual acuity, loss of contrast sensitivity, and afferent pupillary reflex defects, necessitating comprehensive neuro-ophthalmological evaluation and targeted etiological diagnostics. Management is heavily dependent on the underlying cause, where timely intervention and appropriate immunosuppressive therapies are critical for optimizing long-term visual outcomes.
