Neonatal strokes are defined as incidents occurring between the 20th week of gestation and 28 days after birth, encompassing arterial, cerebral sinovenous, and hemorrhagic types. Various maternal, fetal, and placental factors contribute to these events, which are diagnosed primarily using cranial ultrasound and MRI for more detailed visualization. Clinical management is generally supportive, emphasizing the control of seizures and the treatment of underlying metabolic or coagulopathy issues. The long-term prognosis often necessitates careful monitoring for motor development delays and potential epilepsy risks.
