Özet

Nörotropik virüsler, çocuklarda meninks, beyin parankimi veya spinal kord tutulumuna yol açarak menenjit, ensefalit ve miyelit gibi santral sinir sistemi enfeksiyonlarına neden olmaktadır. Türkiye'de viral menenjit vakalarının en sık nedeni enterovirüsler iken, ensefalitlerin en önemli etkeni herpes simpleks virüs-1'dir. Klinik olarak viral ve bakteriyel enfeksiyonları ayırt etmek zor olduğundan, hastaların hızlı değerlendirilmesi ve vakit kaybetmeden uygun ampirik tedavinin başlanması hayati önem taşır. Erken tanı ve doğru tedavi, komplikasyonları ve sekel riskini azaltmada belirleyicidir.

 

Neurotropic viruses cause central nervous system infections in children, manifesting as meningitis, encephalitis, or myelitis depending on the affected anatomical region. In Turkey, enteroviruses are the most frequent cause of viral meningitis, while herpes simplex virus-1 is the primary pathogen associated with encephalitis. Distinguishing between viral and bacterial infections based on clinical findings alone is difficult, necessitating rapid evaluation and prompt initiation of empiric treatment to improve patient outcomes. Early diagnosis and appropriate management are critical for reducing long-term sequelae and mortality.
