Özet
Subakut sklerozan panensefalit (SSPE), genellikle kızamık enfeksiyonundan yıllar sonra ortaya çıkan, beyin dokusunda ilerleyici nörodejeneratif hasara yol açan ölümcül bir yavaş virüs enfeksiyonudur. Hastalığın patogenezi tam olarak bilinmemekle birlikte, kızamık virüsünün beyin hücrelerinde kalıcı ve defektif bir enfeksiyon oluşturmasıyla ilişkili olduğu düşünülmektedir. Dört evrede seyreden klinik tablo, bilişsel gerileme, miyoklonus ve otonomik disfonksiyon gibi ağır nörolojik belirtilerle karakterizedir ve kesin bir tedavisi bulunmamaktadır. Tek etkili önleme yöntemi, kızamık aşısının uygun yaşlarda uygulanmasıdır.
Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a fatal, progressive neurodegenerative disease caused by a slow viral infection, typically occurring years after an initial measles infection. While the exact pathogenesis is not fully understood, it is believed to be associated with a persistent and defective measles virus infection within brain cells. Characterized by four clinical stages, the disease presents with severe neurological symptoms, including cognitive decline, myoclonus, and autonomic dysfunction, for which there is no definitive cure. The only effective method of prevention is the administration of the measles vaccine at the appropriate ages.
