Neurocysticercosis is the most common parasitic infection of the central nervous system, characterized by cysts in the brain caused by the larval form of the tapeworm Taenia soliumAs the leading infectious cause of epilepsy in developing countries, it is primarily transmitted through the ingestion of contaminated food or poor hygiene practices. Diagnosis relies on a combination of clinical suspicion, neuroimaging, and serological tests. Treatment strategies are highly individualized based on the stage and location of the cysts, involving a combination of antiepileptic drugs, antiparasitic therapy, and corticosteroids.
