Childhood poisonings often occur accidentally, necessitating rapid patient stabilization and supportive care as the primary management strategies. Detailed patient history and physical examination are more critical than routine toxicological testing for effective clinical diagnosis. The text outlines the management of common toxidromes, such as cholinergic and opioid syndromes, alongside the specific neurological consequences of heavy metal toxicity. It further addresses neuroteratology, detailing the adverse developmental effects of prenatal exposure to alcohol, various medications, and environmental toxins.
