Özet
Belirli riskli meslek grupları ile intihar davranışı arasındaki çok boyutlu ilişkiyi inceleyen akademik çalışmalar, askeri personel, çiftçi, ormancı, hekim, hemşire, müzisyen ve polis gibi yüksek sorumluluk, yoğun stres ve ölümcül araçlara kolay erişim barındıran mesleklerdeki intihar oranlarının genel popülasyona göre belirgin şekilde yüksek olduğunu göstermektedir. Araştırmalar, mesleki intihar riskini tetikleyen unsurları temel olarak üç faktörle açıklamaktadır: düzensiz ve uzun çalışma saatleri ile yetersiz iş güvenliği gibi zorlu iş koşulları, psikiyatrik rahatsızlıklara yatkınlık gösteren bireylerin bu meslekleri seçme eğilimi ve ateşli silah ya da öldürücü ilaçlar gibi intihar araçlarına yönelik yüksek teknik bilgi ile fiziksel erişilebilirlik. Ayrıca, bu popülasyonlarda damgalanma korkusu, kariyer kaygısı ve kültürel stoacılık gibi nedenlerle psikiyatrik yardım arama davranışının oldukça düşük olması gizli bir mesleki risk yaratmaktadır. Sonuç olarak, riskli meslek gruplarında erken ve istenmeyen ölümlerin önüne geçilebilmesi adına periyodik psikiyatrik değerlendirmelerin, işe alım öncesi tarama çalışmalarının, krize müdahale sevk programlarının ve damgalanmayı azaltacak kapsamlı psikoeğitimlerin kurumsal düzeyde uygulanması gerekliliği savunulmaktadır.
This academic literature examining the multidimensional relationship between specific risky occupational groups and suicidal behavior demonstrates that suicide rates among professions such as military personnel, farmers, forestry workers, physicians, nurses, musicians, and police officers, which involve high responsibility, intense stress, and easy access to lethal means, are significantly higher compared to the general population. Research explains the factors triggering occupational suicide risk primarily through three elements: demanding working conditions such as irregular and long working hours along with insufficient job security, the tendency of individuals with a predisposition to psychiatric disorders to choose these occupations, and high technical knowledge coupled with physical accessibility to suicide means like firearms or lethal medications. Furthermore, due to reasons such as fear of stigmatization, career concerns, and cultural stoicism, help-seeking behavior for psychiatric issues is considerably low in these populations, creating a hidden occupational risk. Consequently, it is argued that in order to prevent premature and unintended deaths in high-risk occupations, periodic psychiatric evaluations, pre-employment screening studies, crisis intervention referral programs, and comprehensive psychoeducation to reduce stigma must be implemented at an institutional level.
