Laser applications in facial aesthetics are indispensable aesthetic surgery methods that were established in the 1960s and have evolved into ablative, non-ablative, and fractional systems today. Among the most preferred ablative systems, the carbon dioxide (CO2) laser is absorbed by water, penetrates into deep tissues, and is considered the gold standard in wrinkle treatment; whereas the Erbium:YAG laser is effective in superficial dyschromias and actinic changes with less thermal damage. Non-ablative infrared lasers, visible lasers, and IPL devices, which protect the epidermis, stimulate collagen production and allow patients to return to their daily routines swiftly. Laser selection and efficacy depend on targeted biological chromophores such as water, melanin, and hemoglobin. For a safe application, selecting patients according to Fitzpatrick skin typing, determining appropriate anesthesia methods to reduce pain, and fully implementing sun protection, prophylaxis, and cooling protocols to minimize complication risks such as erythema, dyspigmentation, and infection during the postoperative period are of vital importance.
