In this study, within the scope of head and neck anatomy, the general structure of the skull skeleton, its bones, joint characteristics, and their clinical relationships are discussed in detail. Anatomically, the skull is divided into the neurocranium, consisting of eight bones that protect the brain, and the splanchnocranium, consisting of fourteen bones that form the facial skeleton. While the anatomical details of the frontal, parietal, occipital, sphenoid, temporal, and ethmoid bones are presented under the neurocranium, the maxilla, palatine, inferior nasal concha, lacrimal, nasal, vomer, and zygomatic bones, along with the mandible—the only mobile bone—are examined in depth under the splanchnocranium section. Additionally, the hyoid, which is a neck bone, is included in the study due to its shared developmental origin with the skull bones. Following the description of the anatomical surfaces, joints, passages, foramina, and sinuses of the bones, the holistic views of the skull, such as norma verticalis, lateralis, frontalis, occipitalis, and basalis, and anthropometric cephalic index classifications are explained. Finally, the clinical section highlights situations of clinical and surgical importance, such as the critical role of emissary veins in spreading infections, trauma to the eyebrow region, infraorbital and mental nerve blocks used in anesthesia applications, Le Fort I, II, and III fractures seen in maxillofacial trauma, typical localizations of mandibular fractures, and alveolar bone resorption due to tooth extractions.
