Solunum Sistemi
The respiratory system consists of the nose, paranasal sinuses, larynx, trachea, lungs, and pleura. The nose, a peripheral olfactory organ, comprises the external nose, nasal cavity containing conchae, and nasal mucosa divided into respiratory and olfactory regions. Surrounding paranasal sinuses provide voice resonance and reduce skull weight. The larynx, specialized for voice production, is supported by nine cartilages—three single and three paired—along with associated joints, membranes, and muscles. Extending from the larynx, the flexible trachea is made of hyaline cartilage rings and bifurcates into two main bronchi. Anatomically, the right main bronchus is shorter, wider, and more vertical than the left, making it a more common site for foreign bodies. Bronchi branch into bronchioles and alveoli within the lungs to form acinus units, where gas exchange occurs. Lungs, the primary respiratory organs, are cone-shaped, divided into lobes by deep fissures, and enveloped by visceral pleura. The space between the parietal and visceral pleura layers contains a thin lubricating fluid to facilitate breathing movements.
