Özet
Temas: İnsan ve Hayvanların Yazılmamış Ortak Tarihi, insanlık tarihinin seyrini değiştiren en önemli kırılma noktalarından biri olan evcilleştirme sürecini ve insan-hayvan etkileşimini merkezine alan ufuk açıcı bir çalışmadır. Yazar Serdar İzmirli, evcilleştirmeyi ateşin ve yazının bulunmasından daha büyük bir domino etkisi yaratan tarihi bir sıçrama olarak niteler. Contact: The Unwritten Common History of Humans and Animals is an eye-opening study that focuses on the domestication process and human-animal interaction, which is one of the most critical turning points in the course of human history. The author, Serdar İzmirli, characterizes domestication as a historical leap that created a domino effect even greater than the discovery of fire and writing. The book profoundly examines how the few species domesticated over a period of approximately 12,000 years shaped the sociological, military, economic, and political structures of societies. This journey, which began with the voluntary companionship of dogs, provided humanity with uninterrupted and sustainable food supplies for the first time in history through the domestication of sheep, goats, and cattle. While cattle turned into humanity's first major capital, horses shortened distances and determined the power of armies, taking the first steps of globalization. The book also discusses societies' struggles for food security through the collapse of the Mayans, the survival sagas of Vikings on islands, and the historical impacts of pandemics. The contrast between the violence inflicted on animals by Western societies throughout history and the compassion-oriented foundation culture in Islam and the Ottoman Empire is strikingly presented. The work stands as a deep gesture of gratitude and loyalty to this ancient partnership that has become invisible in the modern world.
