Hoarseness (dysphonia) in adults is a condition resulting from structural or functional issues in the respiratory system and vocal cords, influenced by factors ranging from lifestyle to neurological diseases. Misuse of the voice leads to the formation of nodules, while smoking, reflux, and various medications predispose individuals to chronic voice disorders by disrupting the mucosal structure. The treatment process requires a multidisciplinary approach involving voice rest, medication, voice therapy, or surgical interventions depending on the underlying cause.
