Diarrhea is a leading cause of child mortality worldwide, particularly in low-income countries, and is classified as acute, persistent, or chronic based on the duration of symptoms. Diagnosis relies on medical history, physical examination, and dehydration assessment, while treatment generally involves oral rehydration solutions, dietary adjustments, and specific antibiotics when necessary. In primary care, the clinical approach focuses on identifying the underlying pathophysiology and referring high-risk cases to specialized centers.
