Anormal Uterin Kanama (AUK), kadınlarda menstrüel döngünün sıklık, düzen, süre veya miktar kriterlerinden birinde meydana gelen sapmalar olarak tanımlanmakta ve FIGO tarafından PALM-COEIN sistemiyle sınıflandırılmaktadırBirinci basamak sağlık hizmetlerinde tanı süreci; detaylı jinekolojik anamnez, fizik muayene ve gebeliğin mutlak dışlanmasıyla başlarken, yapısal bozuklukların tespiti için transvajinal ultrason temel görüntüleme yöntemi olarak kullanılmaktadırHastanın reprodüktif dönem, adölesan veya postmenopozal olmasına göre farklı yaklaşımlar sergilenmekte, özellikle postmenopozal dönemdeki her türlü kanama malignite riski nedeniyle ileri inceleme gerektirmektedir.
