This text comprehensively examines the clinical features and evaluation methods of sleep disorders in children and adolescents. Emphasizing the importance of quality sleep for a healthy life, the author notes that sleep problems negatively impact physical, cognitive, and emotional development in children, yet these issues are often overlooked in clinical settings. The article explains the differences between normal sleep patterns and sleep disorders according to developmental stages, detailing primary complaints such as insomnia, excessive daytime sleepiness, respiratory problems, and parasomnias. The critical role of taking a clinical history in the evaluation process is highlighted, and the "BEARS" acronym is recommended as a practical tool for clinicians. Additionally, the importance of physical examination and the use of tools such as sleep diaries and actigraphy, alongside polysomnography—considered the gold standard in diagnosis—are explained. Consequently, the text demonstrates that sleep disorders share a bidirectional relationship with both medical and psychiatric conditions, therefore requiring a multidisciplinary and systematic approach.
