This text comprehensively examines the effects of sleep deprivation in children and adolescents and sleep hygiene interventions. Sleep deprivation is associated with serious health problems such as decline in cognitive functions, decrease in school performance, difficulties in emotional regulation, and obesity. Research indicates that inadequate sleep increases the risk of depressive mood, anxiety, and even suicidal ideation, while also creating negative effects of up to 40% on memory encoding and consolidation of new information. Sleep hygiene encompasses behavioral and environmental arrangements aimed at promoting healthy sleep. In this context, it is recommended to keep the bedroom cool, dark, and quiet, terminate the use of electronic devices before bedtime, establish a regular sleep schedule, and limit caffeine consumption. While it is noted that exercise improves sleep quality, its timing should be adjusted according to individual tolerance, and it is emphasized that stress management techniques facilitate the sleep-onset process. Consequently, sleep hygiene education is presented as a critical intervention tool for both the academic and psychosocial development of children and adolescents in the fight against sleep deprivation.
