This study, examining the relationship between anxiety disorders and sleep, addresses the prevalence, pathophysiological mechanisms, and clinical interactions of both conditions in children and adolescents. It is noted that anxiety disorders occur at a rate of 6-20% in childhood, negatively impacting academic success and quality of life. Research reveals that 85% of children with anxiety disorders experience sleep problems, and this relationship is often bidirectional. Pathophysiologically, genetic factors, family environment, HPA axis activity, and cognitive distortions are identified as key elements playing a role in this interaction. In subtypes such as generalized anxiety disorder, separation anxiety, and panic disorder, issues like reduced total sleep time and prolonged sleep onset latency are observed. In conclusion, the study emphasizes that anxiety and sleep disorders exist in a complex, mutually triggering structure and states the need for further research in this field.
