This study evaluates the necessity and importance of crime scene investigation nursing (CSIN), an emerging sub-specialty of forensic nursing in Turkey, through surveys conducted with nurses, public prosecutors, and crime scene investigation personnel in response to rising crime and violence rates. According to the research findings, 85.4% of active nurses advocate that this field should be a branch of forensic nursing, while 63.5% of public prosecutors and 51% of crime scene investigation personnel state that this expertise can be utilized when needed. It is emphasized that by blending their medical, pathophysiological, and legal knowledge with investigative skills, CSINs can differentiate findings more rapidly in forensic cases such as suspicious death, injury, neglect, and sexual assault, contribute to the accurate and safe collection of biological evidence, and serve as a unique alternative when forensic pathologists and prosecutors are unavailable. Furthermore, it is stated that the information gathered by these specialized nurses using their five senses can constitute the source of evidence through court testimony, thereby effectively filling the gaps in the justice system.
