This text examines the concepts of sports, law, and sports law, the multidimensional interaction among these concepts, and the historical development of this discipline. While sports is defined as a multidisciplinary phenomenon that generates value through physical, mental, and competitive elements across those who practice, participate in, and follow sports; law represents the set of mandatory rules regulating social relations. Sports law, on the other hand, is an autonomous field of law based on principles of justice and equality that creates, applies, and enforces sanctions for violations of written and unwritten sports-specific rules. In addition to traditional approaches, the study explains modern theories such as Lex Sportiva, Global Sports Law, International Sports Law, Public International Sports Law, European Sports Law, and Lex Ludica. Within the framework of the Global Sports Law approach, which is particularly based on the concept of stateless law, the factors of legislation, judiciary, administration, and sanctioning/execution are examined through examples such as Turkish football, TFF, IFAB, WADA, UEFA, ECtHR, and CAS. The finality of on-field referee decisions, the structure of disciplinary and arbitration boards, issues regarding judicial independence and impartiality, and administrative regulations like Financial Fair Play reveal the institutional operational dynamics of sports law. Consequently, sports law is a holistic framework of vital importance for all stakeholders in sports management and academia.
